26 Jul Wine Talk – Week 4: Refreshingly Bright!
Bauer Gruner Veltliner: Few wines are as well suited for these bright summer afternoons than a Gruner Veltliner. The heart and star of Austrian wine country, Gruner can range in style but consistently give way to fresh and expressive whites that are food friendly and make for ideal summer sippers.
Here is a classic offering from an Austrian family of winemakers , currently the 4th and 5th generations, who work together to make this fully expressive white. Clean and crisp, you will find soft Meyer lemon notes dancing off a mineral backdrop – while subtle green apple and fresh pear fruits soften the edges – making for a more than quaffable – and in fact quite delightful white to pair with your sun filled day.

Three Brooms Sauvignon Blanc: In case you needed another reason to fall in love with New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, we bring you an incredibly bright wine from Three Brooms that has once again renewed our love for this much saught after wine region. Coming from a slightly cooler micro climate within Marlborough, Three Brooms focuses on minimal intervention when it comes to farming and wine making which gives way to both low yields and high quality wines.
Their Sauvignon Blanc is a clean and fresh example of what can come from a sustainably minded winemaker in one of the best regions for this grape. Subtle fruit notes of ripe citrus and kiwi make are touched by a slightly spicy finish giving the wine just the right amount of zip. A great pairing to your just caught whitefish served with grilled heirloom tomatoes and a touch of garlic.
